Comments: Rita Marie Messier, 86, of Bristol, widow of Alfred L. Messier, died on Monday (October 27, 2014) at Countryside Manor. Rita was born in Lac Megantic, Quebec, Canada, on April 28, 1928 and was the only child of the late Clodemire and Fleixceine (Chouinard) Roy. She came to Bristol with her parents in 1945 where she met the love of her life, Alfred, and was married on September 11, 1948. Thus, she began her life as a loving military wife keeping the home fires burning while Al was deployed with the United States Marine Corps. She enjoyed traveling and seeing the world since Al was stationed at: Cherry Point Marine Corps Air Station, NC, El Toro, CA, Pawtuxet River Naval Air Station, MD, and Oslo, Norway. She was most proud of earning her American Citizenship in 1955. She loved her volunteer work which included working with the Navy Relief, the gift shop at Bristol Hospital, St. Matthew Church in Forestville, and helping out at her daughter’s school wherever they were stationed. She was a member of the Nine Holers at West Woods Golf Club and also bowled with the Mixed League at Bristol Ten Pin. She was predeceased by her husband of 39 years in 1988, her parents, and her step-father, Hermidos Beaudoin.
